National Foot Drop Awareness Day 2024

On 20th September 2024, people and charities around the world came together to help raise awareness for National Foot Drop Day, a day dedicated to promoting understanding and offering support for individuals affected by this often-overlooked condition.

Organisations and charities hosted various events to commemorate National Foot Drop Awareness Day 2024. These events include virtual seminars with leading neurologists and orthopaedic specialists, interactive physical therapy sessions, and personal stories shared by those living with foot drop. This year's theme, "Stepping Forward," aimed to shed light on the challenges faced by those with foot drop and emphasise the importance of early diagnosis along with innovative treatments.

"By coming together on National Foot Drop Awareness Day, we can make a significant impact on the lives of those affected by this condition," said Jon Graham founder of National Foot Drop Awareness Society. "Through education, advocacy, and community support, we hope to improve the quality of life for individuals with foot drop and their families. We invite everyone to participate in National Foot Drop Awareness Day 2024 and join us in "Stepping Forward" to build a more informed and compassionate society.”

National Foot Drop Awareness Day 2023

“This device is going to help me in so many ways and I am excited to see what the future holds!”

PhysioFunction and Blatchford joined forces in 2023 to host a highly successful National Foot Drop Awareness Day Event in Northampton.

Throughout the day, PhysioFunction and Blatchford offered foot drop assessments, allowing attendees to try out the Turbomed Foot Brace and Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) devices. The results were nothing short of incredible as participants experienced a significant improvement in their ability to walk unaided, leading to increased confidence and independence.

Jon Graham, Clinical Director at PhysioFunction commented “It was a unique opportunity for individuals to have joint access to both a highly specialist orthotist and physiotherapist to determine and try out an optimal solution for their foot drop.”

One of the highlights of the event was the generous giveaway by Blatchford of a free Turbomed foot brace. This innovative device has proven to be a game changer for people suffering from foot drop, enabling them to walk, run, and hike without discomfort.

Carolyn Lewis, an attendee from National Foot Drop Awareness Event, commented “I just wanted to say thank you for hosting and arranging National Foot Drop Day on Friday with Blatchford. I am so grateful that I could try a Turbomed with the expertise of Steve from Blatchford. I am not going to see my local hospital (RJAH at Oswestry) will supply one for me, as it was so much better than anything else I have tried. So, thank you all for the help with enquiries, directions, the pleasant welcome and atmosphere and the hope it has given me for better walking in the future.”
