“I wish I had been aware of foot drop so that I could have gotten the help that I needed immediately after the injury. I still have other injuries that I'm working towards healing, but it’s an honor to be able to participate in foot drop awareness month. My hope is others can be aware, recognise and provide more support and prevention to others.”

I experienced foot drop after I had a traumatic childbirth injury due to certain medical decisions that were made during labor. It resulted in neurological damage that made it extremely painful and difficult to lift my feet and walk for months.

Thankfully my baby was ok, but unfortunately I went undiagnosed for 1.5 years. Doctors said I was fine, and that it was normal to be in pain and that I would get better. After about 6 months my nerves improved and I got more movement in my legs, however I had a lot of muscle atrophy, nerve damage in the lower body and along with other injuries. I have been doing a lot of physical therapy the past year and I'm so happy it has improved my overall condition.

I wish I had been aware of foot drop so that I could have gotten the help that I needed immediately after the injury. I still have other injuries that I'm working towards healing, but it’s an honor to be able to participate in foot drop awareness month. My hope is others can be aware, recognise and provide more support and prevention to others.
