What I have learned since my brain surgery in 2015, is that foot drop does not discriminate. However, despite the wide representation of children and adults with conditions that cause foot drop, resources that can dramatically change a person’s mobility and quality of life are still out of reach to the most Americans. My journey to walk again after awaking with hemiparesis post surgery was only successful due to the efforts of non-profits that bridged the gap between my family and the best rehabilitative walking devices on the market, many of which are still not covered by insurance. I would not be walking without assistance, even jogging a little (slow and safe!) without the kindness of people who know, who educate, and who advocate for patients with foot drop.
It is extremely important we support non profits like the National Foot drop Society, so no child or adult with foot drop ever has to watch life from the sidelines again.”
